alloyman{to be very honest, Tony was just trying to be thorough. Make sure that Loki was taken care of and hopefully not to lonely, making sure that Thor didn't think that Tony was off cheating on his brother - he gave the phone to Pepper to clarify that Tony was in fact just running late at the office for once - and maybe just maybe he wanted to give the brothers a chance to bond
so he told Thor "can you check on Loki for me? I told him that I won't be home until late but I don't want him to feel neglected anyway"
