and for once we collide;

Ieyasu rarely woke at the same time as Mitsunari.

Though he was often the first to sleep, he also had the luxury of being the last to wake. Sometimes he would stir slightly when the warmth that Mitsunari provided left his arms, but he would roll over not a moment later to let Mitsunari prepare for work in peace.

Though when he was up at the same time as Mitsunari, he still technically wasn’t awake.

He’d hardly be awake by choice anyway, he only giving up after his body refused to let him sleep any longer – even if he’d only gotten maybe four hours after a long night.

Then, acting as totally useless to society, he would plop himself in front of the coffee maker and consider ways to make it operate faster.

Mitsunari wouldn’t particularly mind only because Ieyasu was harmless in the early morning before he got his coffee (though if he’d woken up even an hour later with his usual sunshiny personality then it was an Issue), and he would often get to the coffee maker before Mitsunari even thought of it, effectively cutting down the time it took to receive that first cup of caffeine.

But that would only last until the coffee was done. Mitsunari tried to be out of the house as soon as Ieyasu finished lovingly pouring his coffee, utilizing the extra time allotted to him—

Except sometimes, he didn’t make it.

The effect would be immediate as Ieyasu took in the caffeine like a sponge, a big yawn being his first audible action of the morning as he took his coffee mug in one hand and the other arm wrapped around Mitsunari’s waist.

“Morning, Mitsunari,” Ieyasu hummed with a noise of contentment as he leaned over and placed a kiss on Mitsunari’s cheek.

Struggling against the hold, Mitsunari huffed. “Yes, yes, good morning, now I need to go to-“

“But it’s still early!” his boyfriend whined, burying his face in the crook of Mitsunari’s neck after another sip of coffee.

“Ieyasu.” Ah, that was it. The stern growl that made it absolutely clear that Mitsunari did not have the patience for this and might very well take a chomp out of Ieyasu’s face if the nonsense did not stop.

The brunette had enough self-preservation to note that.

So he pulled away, met Mitsunari’s face to face for just a moment – though he really would’ve liked a bit longer to just stare at his eyes – and gently placed a kiss to his lips.

There was a minor ‘hmph’ from the other man, but that was ignored.

But as Ieyasu pulled away, he retracted his arm and offered a sunny smile.

“Have a good day at work, Mitsunari.”

The response he got was a terse nod as Mitsunari did not waste another moment in walking away from him and out the apartment.

He did not pause until he was outside the apartment and was about to take a sip of the coffee in the portable container that Ieyasu had prepared-

Though there was something mildly satisfying as he realized he was able to taste coffee on his lips without even having taken his first sip.
