[He learned after their first fight. 

He learned that he never really wanted to be without Mitsunari for any reason. Ever. He'd wanted to propose some time before, always planned on it, but he thought that it would be better once they got a wedding planner and it wouldn't be a bad wait-

Then suddenly it was. 

It's some empty celebration that no one questioned because Ieyasu was always a marvelously friendly person, happy to throw parties for birthdays and the like. 

So it was assumed that it was someone's birthday or something along those lines so no one asked when he called them all to a fancy hotel. 

His boyfriend was among the invited of course, but neither of them were among the crowd now as Ieyasu took Mitsunari's hand in his, guiding him out to the balcony.]

You ought to see this view, Mitsunari!

[And his other hand lightly patted the place where the inside pocket laid.

[It's unusual for Ieyasu to be home late.

Mitsunari isn't particularly worried; he got a text back from him saying that he'd be out with friends a little bit longer.
